1995 - Mr Major’s Comments on the Resignation of Douglas Hurd

Below is the text of Mr Major’s comments on the resignation of the Foreign Secretary, Douglas Hurd, made in Huntingdon on 23rd June 1995.

PRIME MINISTER:

Douglas has been a member of the Government now for a very long time, he's been a member of the Cabinet for six years. He's made a remarkable contribution, both to the Cabinet and to the country, and I have not a shred of doubt, that whether one agrees with everything he does and even those who don't, no-one can deny he has been one of the greatest Foreign Secretaries we've had this century.
