APPOINTMENT OF NEW PARTY CHAIRMAN
The Rt Hon John Major MP, Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party, has appointed the Rt Hon Sir Norman Fowler MP (Sutton Coldfield) Chairman of the Conservative Party with effect from Monday, 11 May 1992.
Commenting on the appointment the Prime Minister said, “I am delighted that Norman Fowler has accepted my invitation to become Chairman of the Conservative Party. He has wide experience and formidable political skills and I very much look forward to working with him. I can think of no-one better to prepare the Conservative Party for the many challenges that lie ahead”.
