Below is the text of the written answers relating to Prime Minister's Question Time from 7th May 1996.

PRIME MINISTER:

Engagements

Sir Peter Tapsell: To ask the Prime Minister if he will list his official engagements for Tuesday 7 May.

The Prime Minister: This morning, I had meeting with ministerial colleagues and others. In addition to my duties in the House, I shall be having further meetings later today.

Hospitality

Mr. Hall: To ask the Prime Minister (1) if the rules for holding fundraising and party political events at No. 10 Downing Street are applied to Chequers, No. 11 Downing Street, No. 12 Downing Street, Dorneywood and Chevening;

(2) if he will list the date, host and purpose of all non-official party receptions or functions held at No. 10 Downing street and Chequers since November 1990.

The Prime Minister [holding answer 1 May 1996]: Ministers under this and previous Administrations have been allowed-at their own or party expense--to host non-official or party receptions or functions in Downing Street. All catering, staff and other direct costs must be met by the organisers of the event. Appropriate arrangements are required for security clearance.

The same rules are applied at Chequers, Chevening and Dorneywood within the overall arrangements made by the trustees with each occupant.

The details of individual functions are not a matter for the Government.
