Jeremy Hanley
Jeremy Hanley was born in 1945, and first attempted to enter Parliament at the Lambeth Central by-election in 1978, but was unsuccessful. He became the MP for Richmond and Barnes in 1983. He was the PPS to Richard Luce from 1987 until 1990 and briefly the PPS to Chris Patten. He became a Under-Secretary of State at Northern Ireland in 1990 and then Minister of State for the Armed Force in 1993. Hanley entered the Cabinet as the Conservative Party Chairman in 1994. After the 1995 Cabinet reshuffle, he was moved to be a Minister at the Foreign Office, where he stayed until the 1997 General Election.
He was defeated at the 1997 General Election at this renamed Richmond Park seat, and was also knighted in 1997. He is also a Freeman of the City of London and Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants.
