Michael Forsyth

Michael Forsyth was born in 1954 and educated at Arbroath and the University of St. Andrews. He was elected as a Westminster City councillor from 1978 to 1983.

Forsyth entered Parliament for the constituency of Stirling in 1983 and became PPS to the Foreign Secretary in 1986 and then a Minister of State in the Scotland Office from 1987 to 1992. He was promoted to the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Scotland in 1995, a position he held until the 1997 General Election, when he also lost his seat.

Michael Forsyth was elevated to the Peerage as Baron Forsyth of Drumlean.
